A closing letter from the President
It has been a long, amazing road. 9 years ago, we started with nothing. I took what little money I had and put it towards T-Shirts. We needed merchandise that can both raise money and advertise the mission of Colorado Wounded Vet Run. “Local People Helping our Local Heroes.” We stood in parking lots selling shirts and handing out information. One of the first events we hosted I immediately received a cease-and-desist notice from the federal gaming commission for having an illegal poker tournament. One of our first award dinners I cooked for 45 people, I decided catering is not at all for me. One year our Model A car club carrying our honorees took a wrong turn and I was left leading 100 bikes on my own. I was terrified. We disobeyed all covid restrictions and pushed on with our ride, refusing to stop our mission. There were many golf tournaments. And one year we maxed out our goals and raised money for 4 honorees!
Through all this we have created long-lasting friendships, allies, and advocates. We gave our community a way to come together and stand for something we believe in. We made it our mission not to change the world but to change someone’s world and we succeeded many times over. With a heavy heart 2023 is Colorado Wounded Vet Run’s last and final year. We are beyond grateful for every supporter, volunteer, and sponsor.
There are many other organizations that you can stand behind and support. Do your research and make sure that their money is going to the cause you expect it to.
To our 2023 Honorees Specialist Jace Angus, Corporal Curtis Ward, and Corporal Michael Crawley thank you for your service. We hope that this support can change your world.
